Brooklyn-based photographer Jeff Zorabedian of JDZ Photography has been working with kids and families for over ten years. How did you get started photographing families?
Twelve years ago I got a job working with a portrait photographer who did a lot of work with children. I wasn’t a father yet at the time, so I was surprised that I really hit it off with kids. Since I started my own studio in 2012, I photograph thousands of kids a year.
What’s changed about family photos in the digital age?
The trouble with our phones and digital cameras is that photography has become so ubiquitous that it doesn’t feel special any more. We might post a picture online and then never see it again. As both a dad and a professional photographer, I want to change that. I want to help you get the photos off of your phone and onto your walls, capturing the unique spirit of your kids to create unforgettable portraits. I make it my mission to take fun, energetic photos that tell a story about each family. I’m honored that parents choose me to capture their stories.

Why take pictures on film?
First of all, because it’s beautiful. The tonal range and the detail are jaw-droppingly gorgeous. I’m also shooting on film now because it costs money–I know that every time I press the shutter I’m paying for it, and it alters the way I take pictures. I also feel like I take more care creating each image when I can’t immediately see the pictures I’m taking.
Do you ever shoot digital?
All the time! 95% of the pictures I take professionally are digital.
What are your rates?
Portrait collections start at 399. I’m booking sessions now for any time in 2019. Reserve a session by March 31 and save 25% on all prints, albums, and wall art.
