Friday November 8th
Canstruction 2019 in Brookfield Place (Battery Park City)
Daily 10a-8p until Thursday November 21st. Free to attend. There is no admission fee to enter Canstruction, but we ask that all our visitors bring a full can of healthy food (or several) to donate to City Harvest. There is a large collection bin next to the Information Desk located on the second level. An extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world, Canstruction challenges teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to build sculptures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The large-scale structures are placed on display and later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Note: It is best to enter through the doors at 230 Vesey Street where you will see the first of the structures.
Toddler Time: Shake, Rattle, and Read! at Mulberry Street NY Public Library (NoLita)
Fridays 1030a in November. Free. Join us to hear stories, sing songs, and get those wiggles out as you help your active childre build important early learning skills. Discover ways to promote early literacy at home and meet other caregivers in the neighborhood. Suggested for babies, toddlers and their caregivers.
Science Baby at DeKalb Brooklyn Public Library (Bushwick)
Fridays 11a until December 13th. Free. Join us at the library for this special series for babies and toddlers exploring STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! Science Baby is a creative science program for 0-3 year olds led by teaching artist Emma Gordon. The heart of Science Baby is exploring the wonder of science through story, repetition and play. We explore gravity, motion, magnets, chemical reactions, light, water, bubbles, sound and more!

Sometimes Domino chooses to be naughty, but sometimes it happens without her realizing. There are so many rules! Penguin wants to know how she can still have fun without getting into so much bother. Will you help? This interactive performance for ages 2-5 invites us to join Domino as she navigates a tricky world filled with opportunities to be naughty…or not. Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats at BAM (Fort Greene)

Join Brooklyn’s own Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats for an interactive concert of delightful, jazz-age inspired music. Kids dance and sing along with playful scatting and are encouraged to join in as the musicians rejoice in the simple joys of life. Drawing from her Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, Kalantari incorporates bilingual songs for all ages in a multicultural celebration of community and togetherness. Come early for a free musical warm-up with teaching artist Jono Waldman, where kids learn a jazz tune and devise a song! Activities begin 30 minutes before the show.
Just Kidding: The Okee Dokee Brothers at Symphony Space (UWS)

This GRAMMY winning Minnesota duo, remind children (and their adults) of their intrinsic ability to discover, imagine, and create through music. Snow White and the Battle For Pittsburgh at The Heights Players (Brooklyn Heights)

Rolie Polie Guacamole lays claim to being the one of the hardest working bands in kids’ music, and that just might be true. They’ve released six albums and played well over 2,000 shows nationwide since hitting the boards with their first performance in 2007.
American Art Family Day at The Jewish Museum (UES)

Families are invited to discover masterworks of Georgia O’Keeffe, Jacob Lawrence, Ben Shahn and other notable artists collected by art dealer Edith Halpert at this family extravaganza. Plunge into an ocean of music and poetry to meet the sarcastic fringehead fish, an expanding pufferfish, a stoplight parrotfish, a love-struck seahorse, an eight-part fugal octopus, and more! Tales From the Shed at Queens Theatre
Sunday November 10th 1p & 3p (both relaxed performances). Tickets: $15 general, $10 family flex. Run time: 60 minutes. Tales From the Shed is a special chance for young children, ages 0-6, of all abilities to enjoy a unique, interactive theatrical experience. After last year’s successful debut at Queens Theatre, Chickenshed NYC returns with an encore presentation of Tales From the Shed, its interactive and inclusive show for young children and their families. Hang out with Lion Down, Preston, Blurgh and all their furry friends in this inclusive children’s theater production. With stories, songs, and dancing, you won’t be able to stop laughing.

Veterans Day: Soldiers of the American Revolution at DiMenna Children’s History Museum (UWS)
Monday November 11th 11a-4p. Free with Museum Admission. All ages. Honor America’s military heritage on Veterans Day and listen to stories about life on and off the battlefield from soldiers who served during the American Revolution. Meet reenactors from the 3rd New Jersey and the 4th Massachusetts Regiments, learn about the lives of black soldiers who served in the Continental Army, and experience an immersive theatrical event about Deborah Sampson (played by Judith Kalaora), the real-life woman who disguised her gender and fought with distinction in the Revolutionary War. Afterwards, visit the exhibition Beyond Midnight: Paul Revere for kid-friendly labels, touch objects, and a Paul Revere story corner. Special gift! Get into the Revolutionary War spirit: Kids get free quill pens all weekend from the NYHistory Store if they say the code word “PAUL REVERE” to a sales associate.

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs: Discovery Pack, 12–3p: The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families. Holiday Express: All Aboard to Richard Scarry’s Busytown at New-York Historical Society (UWS)
Ongoing until February 23rd 2020. Museum hours: Tuesday-Thursday 10a-6p, Friday 10a-8p, Saturday 10a-6p & Sunday 11a-5p. Free with Museum admission. Holiday Express returns to New-York Historical this holiday season, reimagined to celebrate the 100th birthday of Busytown author and illustrator Richard Scarry. The installation showcases artwork and graphics of Scarry’s characters (like Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm!) from publisher Penguin Random House alongside Jerni Collection toys. Children and adults can also experience dynamic displays exploring the workings of the railroad, the services it provides, and the jobs required to keep people and goods moving.
NYC Winter Lantern Festival x WTC Pop-Up in Liberty Park (Financial District)
Ongoing 6a-11p until November 16th. Free Kick off the holiday season with a special preview of the 2019 NYC Winter Lantern Festival at the World Trade Center. The spectacular lantern display features 12 hand-crafted zodiac animals from the Lunar Calendar, each with their own special meaning. Take a stroll with your family and friends through Liberty Park and enjoy the festive glow of lights.
The Brave Little Tailor at Galli Theater New York (Tribeca)
Saturday-Sunday November 9-10th at 2p. Tickets: $20 adult, $15 child, $35 adult/child combo. Theater for the entire Family! The brave little tailor kills seven flies with one blow. The little tailor is amazed at his heroic deed and wants the whole world to hear of it. He sews a belt that reads: “7 at one stroke”. The hero in this story is armed with whit, cunning and a sense of humour. He conquers all before him, including giants, a unicorn, and a princess.
DIY Fall Fest Games at Children’s Museum of Manhattan (UWS)

Wildlife Weekends at Queens County Farm Museum
Saturdays-Sundays 11a-4p until November 10th. Advance Tickets: $12 all ages (all-inclusive pay-one-price event). Door Tickets: $15 all ages. Free for Members. Wildlife Weekends are packed full of fun for the entire family including pony rides, hayrides, animal feeding, and the always entertaining (and sometimes slimy) Frogs, Bugs & Animals Show in addition to historic farmhouse tours. Survival of the Slowest at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Ongoing until February 2nd 2020. Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10a-5p, Thursday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 10a-7p. Free with Museum admission. Meet Roger the sloth! He has two toes, lives in Central America, and is visiting Brooklyn with his friends. Learn about how slow animals survive and thrive in our fast-paced world at BCM’s newest exhibit. Survival of the Slowest features 19 distinct habitats with live animals, including Roger the two-toed sloth, a blood python, a roughneck monitor lizard, and many more. Each day this exhibit will offer up-close experiences with slow and small species that survive and thrive in a world where large, strong, and fast animals are often at the top of the food chain. Survival of the Slowest prompts families to appreciate the different evolutionary paths of these incredible creatures, and showcases the value of deliberation in our fast-paced city. While exploring Survival of the Slowest, young visitors will explore concepts of biology and evolutionary science. Live animal presentations are offered throughout the day to educate, entertain, and most importantly, connect visitors with wildlife and nature.
The Art of the Brick at New York Hall of Science
Daily through January 26th. General hours ~ Monday–Friday: 930a-5p and Saturday–Sunday: 10a-6p. Entry to the exhibition costs $7 per person, plus NYSCI admission. Experience The Art of the Brick, the world’s largest display of LEGO® art! Artist Nathan Sawaya created more than 100 pieces for this exhibition using only LEGO bricks. The collection features original pieces, as well as re-imagined versions of some of the world’s most famous art masterpieces.
