Family Game Night at Park Slope Brooklyn Public Library

Farmhouse Family Day: Native Storytelling Today at Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum
Saturday November 16th 11a-3p. Free. Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Wyckoff House Museum with Protest Garden artist-in-residence Kelsey Pyro for our November Family Day. Kelsey will lead us in an exploration of heritage and history through collage-making, storytelling, and poetry at 1:00 p.m.. Take a closer look at Brooklyn’s Native and Colonial history with a tour of our house and grounds, and as always enjoy a scavenger hunt, art activities, and toys and games. Family Day runs from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is always free and open to all ages. Reservations not required but recommended. RSVP here.
The Galapagos Animal Convention/La Asamblea de Animales de Galápagos at Teatro SEA (Lower East Side)
Saturday November 16th 11a. Tickets: $20/adult, $10/child. “If humans don’t protect our environment, we have to do it ourselves. It’s our home too!” For this reason, the animals have gotten together for an assembly at The Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. They must organize themselves to save Planet Earth! The convention, very serious but at the same time fun, ends with a pact, an action plan, and a promise between the animals and the children, who call themselves the Ambassadors of Conservation. // “Si los humanos no protegen nuestro medio ambiente, tenemos que hacerlo nosotros mismos. ¡También es nuestro hogar! ”Por esta razón, los animales se han reunido para una asamblea en las Islas Galápagos, en Ecuador. ¡Tienen que organizarse para salvar el planeta Tierra! La convención, muy seria pero al mismo tiempo divertida, termina con un pacto, un plan de acción y una promesa entre los animales y los niños, que se autodenominan Embajadores de la Conservación.

Get Up, Stand Up! at BAM (Fort Greene)

Celebrate the power of music and song in this family-friendly concert featuring Zimbabwe-raised, DC-based emcee Dumi Right and friends, alongside local performers and student poets. Get Up, Stand Up! expands upon the tradition of BAM’s annual showcase Word. Sound. Power. to bring the same love for hip-hop and poetry to a younger audience. Dumi Right was first introduced to audiences as a member of Zimbabwe Legit and has since gone on to perform internationally. His work brings together classic hip-hop styles, thought-provoking lyrics, and poignant wordplay, as well as diverse collaborations with artists from around the globe. Right’s belief in the power of hip-hop extends to his work as an educator, encouraging young artists to share their voices with the world.

Stroller Tour Through History at DiMenna Children’s History Museum (UWS)
Sunday November 17th 1015-11a (the first and third Sunday of each month. $25 per family ($20 per Member family) (includes up to two adults plus kids). Take a stroll through history with your little one! Grownups and their children (up to 3 years old) explore America’s past, present, and future in this lively and interactive tour. Our early childhood educator leads you and your child on an exploration of art, history, and creativity—all before the museum opens for the day. Singing, movement, texture exploration, and art-making in the galleries make for a memorable morning.
Princess Backpack and Benjamin at Jalopy Theatre (Red Hook)
Sunday November 17th 11a. Tickets: $5 child, $10 adult, $25 family. The unlikeliest of duos, Princess Backpack and Benjamin, can’t wait to bring their music back to Jalopy Theatre! Their debut CD has been played on radio stations across the country, and for some reason a whole lot in Australia. Their shows are folksy, goofy, and fun for the whole family. This one will feature a toe-tapping band, prizes, and surprises, and 10% of all proceeds will go to children’s charities.

Sunday November 17th 11a-12n. FREE and open to the public. Author & Illustrator Reading for Max’s Box! Come by Private Picassos for a special reading of Max’s Box, by author Brian Wray. Afterwards, kids will do a special art project with illustrator Shiloh Penfield. Pick up a signed copy of this wonderful book and 75% of the proceeds will go directly to Brooklyn Book Bodega, a non-profit that encourages children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds to engage with each other over a shared passion for reading while building their personal libraries. Yeti, Set, Snow! at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)

An original story and production from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, Yet, Set, Snow! is the story of a young girl named Widget, and her friend, Twig, who encounter a yeti named Pascetti on the first snow day of the winter season. Pascetti, who lives on a mountain top nearby, dislikes the snow. Through songs and snow day activities, Pascetti discovers not only that snow can be fun but also the value of friendship.
Canstruction 2019 in Brookfield Place (Battery Park City)
Daily 10a-8p until Thursday November 21st. Free to attend. There is no admission fee to enter Canstruction, but we ask that all our visitors bring a full can of healthy food (or several) to donate to City Harvest. There is a large collection bin next to the Information Desk located on the second level. An extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world, Canstruction challenges teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to build sculptures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The large-scale structures are placed on display and later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Note: It is best to enter through the doors at 230 Vesey Street where you will see the first of the structures.

Holiday Express: All Aboard to Richard Scarry’s Busytown at New-York Historical Society (UWS)
Ongoing until February 23rd 2020. Museum hours: Tuesday-Thursday 10a-6p, Friday 10a-8p, Saturday 10a-6p & Sunday 11a-5p. Free with Museum admission. Holiday Express returns to New-York Historical this holiday season, reimagined to celebrate the 100th birthday of Busytown author and illustrator Richard Scarry. The installation showcases artwork and graphics of Scarry’s characters (like Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm!) from publisher Penguin Random House alongside Jerni Collection toys. Children and adults can also experience dynamic displays exploring the workings of the railroad, the services it provides, and the jobs required to keep people and goods moving.
NYC Winter Lantern Festival x WTC Pop-Up in Liberty Park (Financial District)
Ongoing 6a-11p until November 16th. Free Kick off the holiday season with a special preview of the 2019 NYC Winter Lantern Festival at the World Trade Center. The spectacular lantern display features 12 hand-crafted zodiac animals from the Lunar Calendar, each with their own special meaning. Take a stroll with your family and friends through Liberty Park and enjoy the festive glow of lights.
Conservation Heroes at Prospect Park Zoo

Every weekend in November Prospect Park Zoo will say thanks to the people who are working around the world to keep the amazing diversity of life on this planet safe. Join Prospect Park Zoo for fun activities and a celebration of conservation successes by Wildlife Conservation Society researchers at home and around the globe.

Survival of the Slowest at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Ongoing until February 2nd 2020. Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10a-5p, Thursday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 10a-7p. Free with Museum admission. Meet Roger the sloth! He has two toes, lives in Central America, and is visiting Brooklyn with his friends. Learn about how slow animals survive and thrive in our fast-paced world at BCM’s newest exhibit. Survival of the Slowest features 19 distinct habitats with live animals, including Roger the two-toed sloth, a blood python, a roughneck monitor lizard, and many more. Each day this exhibit will offer up-close experiences with slow and small species that survive and thrive in a world where large, strong, and fast animals are often at the top of the food chain. Survival of the Slowest prompts families to appreciate the different evolutionary paths of these incredible creatures, and showcases the value of deliberation in our fast-paced city. While exploring Survival of the Slowest, young visitors will explore concepts of biology and evolutionary science. Live animal presentations are offered throughout the day to educate, entertain, and most importantly, connect visitors with wildlife and nature.
The Art of the Brick at New York Hall of Science
Daily through January 26th. General hours ~ Monday–Friday: 930a-5p and Saturday–Sunday: 10a-6p. Entry to the exhibition costs $7 per person, plus NYSCI admission. Experience The Art of the Brick, the world’s largest display of LEGO® art! Artist Nathan Sawaya created more than 100 pieces for this exhibition using only LEGO bricks. The collection features original pieces, as well as re-imagined versions of some of the world’s most famous art masterpieces. More than one million LEGO bricks were used to create Sawaya’s sculptures. See the website for all the event details.
