Monday January 13th

¡Bienvenidos! Spanish Sing-Along with Lucy Kalantari! at Lark (Flatbush/Prospect Park South)
Mondays 11a. $10 Drop-in (Venmo & PayPal accepted!).You and your child will go on an adventure with storytime, start a band at her jam session and leave feeling lighter, smiling ear to ear, all while picking up Spanish language fundamentals. Lucy Kalantari is Latina (Dominican & Puerto Rican parents), and is the bandleader for Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats, making jazz age inspired music for families. She won the GRAMMY Award for Best Children’s Album in February 2019.

Sing & Move! with The Sparrow Sisters at Monkey Do! Yoga (Gowanus)
Mondays 11a. For 0-3y. Drop in $15 (per caregiver/child pair). Additional Family Member $8. Sing and Move in this active sing-a-long. Live instruments, props, and fun! This 45 minute movement and music class will lead toddlers and parents through a series of simple poses accompanied by story songs and live music (kids love the ukulele!). We will also explore rhythm with clapping exercises and percussive toy instruments.

Toddler Yoga at Park Slope Brooklyn Public Library
Mondays 1115a-12n in January (none 1/20). Free. Join Kelly Brennan for some fun on the yoga mat! Toddlers will explore yoga poses and breathing in a playful way through adventures, stories, games, and songs. This class is designed for toddlers 18 mos. to 3 years. We kindly ask that caregivers are attentive and quiet during the class. Caregivers are invited to participate as well! Class size will be limited to 20 participants. Tuesday January 14th

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Louie Miranda at Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday January 14th 11a-12n. Free. Location: Dweck Center. Free. Louie Miranda has been dazzling the hearts of children, parents & teachers everywhere he goes. He is unique, original & loved by an ever-growing population across the country! He has played with numerous ensembles performing music in a wide variety of styles.

A Snowy Day Storytime and Craft at Tompkis Square NY Public Library
Tuesday January 14th 1130a. Free. Recommended for children 0 to 5 years of age. Join us in Celebrating the most check out book of all time and classic “A Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. Storytime followed by a craft.

DOLITTLE Animal Diorama! at CAMP City Point (Downtown Brooklyn)
Tuesday January 14th & Thursday January 16th 330-415p. Free. Create your own adventure with some of Doctor Dolittle’s furry friends like Poly the parrot and Yoshi the polar bear as they get ready to sail across the sea on an epic adventure. All in celebration of the new movie DOLITTLE coming to theaters January 17.

Wednesday January 15th

Yellow Sneaker Puppet Sing-Alongs at Blue Marble Ice Cream (Prospect Heights)
Wednesdays 10a. $10/child. Geared towards kids age 0-5 and their families. Yellow Sneaker presents a 45 minute interactive singalong with puppets, combining original songs, oldies, and traditional children’s music. Sing, clap, dance, and shake your sillies out!

Build with LEGO at Bay Ridge Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesdays 3-4p until February 26th. Free. Come play with our extensive collection of LEGO, DUPLO, and other building toys, with materials suitable for ages 2-12. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Lil Yogis: 6-8 year olds at Bend & Bloom Yoga (Park Slope/Gowanus)
Wednesdays 4-5p. $20/kids drop-in. Class packs also available. Mat rentals are included for all Kids Classes.Bend & Bloom taps the enthusiasm of 6-8 year olds by integrating joyful yoga with creative self-expression using storytelling, music, and art. Fun-filled yoga sequences develop strength, coordination, and body awareness while balancing poses and safe experimentation with experiencing the world upside down build self-confidence. We introduce playful breathing exercises, creative imagery, and relaxation skills that your child can carry with them into their increasingly busy school and social lives. Note: Adult Hour Flow class runs at the same time.

Thursday January 16th

True Play Improv at Columbus NY Public Library (Hell’s Kitchen)
Thursdays 11a in January. Free. Best for children ages 3-5 years with parent/caregiver. In every True Play class, parents and kids engage in imaginative play, igniting kids’ creativity and storytelling abilities. Kids of all ages sometimes lead their parents. Kids agree with their parents – it’s a RULE! All partners practice verbal and nonverbal communication: active listening, sharing attention and taking turns. Everyone laughs, without the pressure of a performance. Through Improv games we build communication skills, helping your little one feel more confident to find their voice in a team setting by using Improv’s Golden Rule, “Yes, And”. Thursdays 330p. $20/drop in. Sing-Along with Hannah from The Buttons Band! About The Buttons Band: Sweet, silly, and ready to rock your socks off! The Buttons Band is an upbeat original kids music band based in Brooklyn. Join Hannah every week for a lively song and dance party to keep you moving through your afternoon!

Family Movie: Zootopia at the Annex Brooklyn Public Library (DUMBO)
Thursday January 16th 4-6p. Free. Welcome to the Annex! Please join us as we turn the Annex into a mini movie theater. All ages welcome. Synopsis: The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy.

Ongoing Events

18th Annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal (Midtown East)
Ongoing until February 23rd 2020. Free. Hours: Monday–Friday 8a–8p, Saturday and Sunday: 11a–6p. Closed for special events and major holidays. Every holiday season, the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery plays host to a city within a city with the display of a miniature electric railroad running over, through, and beneath some of New York’s most magnificent landmarks. Celebrating its 18th year of operation, this beloved annual holiday exhibit features model trains traveling along a 34’ long, two-level, “O” gauge model train layout. This year’s exhibit is set against a mural designed by cartoonist Julia Wertz. Departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Terminal, the Transit Museum’s collection of Lionel trains including Metro-North, Polar Express, and vintage subway train sets will dazzle the eyes of children and adults alike as they make their way past New York landmarks and on to the North Pole! Note that strollers are not permitted in the Gallery & Store. Additionally, Grand Central Terminal does not permit unattended strollers. Please consider leaving your strollers at home. The Industry City Ice Rink (Sunset Park)
Wednesdays-Thursdays 4-8p, Fridays 11a-8p, Saturdays 10a-8p and Sundays 10a-5p. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under, with skate rentals costing $9. Tickets can be purchased on site at IC Ice Rink in courtyard 5/6. The Industry City Ice Rink opens November 30 and welcomes guests to join for an iconic winter experience every Wednesday to Sunday with ice skating theme parties on Fridays + Saturdays. The rink is outside and uncovered, so dress appropriately for an enjoyable and comfortable skate. If you come at a popular time and there’s a line, there are plenty of other activities to fill your time while you wait. Pop into our game room, browse + shop The Makers Guild, hang by the fire pit or grab a drink inside any of our brewers and distillers. See website for all the details.

Survival of the Slowest at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Ongoing until February 2nd 2020. Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10a-5p, Thursday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 10a-7p. Free with Museum admission. Meet Roger the sloth! He has two toes, lives in Central America, and is visiting Brooklyn with his friends. Learn about how slow animals survive and thrive in our fast-paced world at BCM’s newest exhibit. Survival of the Slowest features 19 distinct habitats with live animals, including Roger the two-toed sloth, a blood python, a roughneck monitor lizard, and many more. Each day this exhibit will offer up-close experiences with slow and small species that survive and thrive in a world where large, strong, and fast animals are often at the top of the food chain. Survival of the Slowest prompts families to appreciate the different evolutionary paths of these incredible creatures, and showcases the value of deliberation in our fast-paced city. While exploring Survival of the Slowest, young visitors will explore concepts of biology and evolutionary science. Live animal presentations are offered throughout the day to educate, entertain, and most importantly, connect visitors with wildlife and nature.

Playdate & Mingle Time at Edamama Cute Cuts & More (Williamsburg)
Daily 130-3p. Cash only: $15 per munchkin. Sibling is $25 (two children). Adults are free! Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Invite your friends. While munchkins are rolling around and socializing you can take a breather with your friends! Our space is the most children and family friendly hang out space in the hood. Play dates are an informal and unstructured social events for munchkins 0 to 3 yrs old and their tribe.

Drop-in Storytimes at Stories Bookshop + Storytelling Lab (Park Slope)
Mondays 1130a, 1230p & 3p, Tuesdays 1030a, Wednesdays 1130a & 1230p, Thursdays 1030a & 1130a & Fridays 1130a & 1230p. No sign-up or registration is needed for Storytimes. Weekday Storytimes with our staff are $10 per family, with further discounted Read-y passes available for sale in our bookshop. See website for information.

T. rex: The Ultimate Predator at American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Daily 10a-545p until August 9th 2020. Timed entry only. Gallery 3, third floor. General Admission + One tickets: Adult $28 / Child (2-12) $16.50 / Senior & Student $22.50. Free for members. How did T. rex evolve to become the most fearsome carnivore of the Mesozoic? T. rex: The Ultimate Predator will introduce you to the entire tyrannosaur superfamily and reveal the amazing story of the most iconic dinosaur in the world through stunning life-sized models, fossils and casts, engaging interactives, and an immersive multiplayer virtual reality experience developed exclusively for this exhibition. Warning: you may never think of T. rex the same way again.

Holiday Express: All Aboard to Richard Scarry’s Busytown at New-York Historical Society (UWS)
Ongoing until February 23rd 2020. Museum hours: Tuesday-Thursday 10a-6p, Friday 10a-8p, Saturday 10a-6p & Sunday 11a-5p. Free with Museum admission. Holiday Express returns to New-York Historical this holiday season, reimagined to celebrate the 100th birthday of Busytown author and illustrator Richard Scarry. The installation showcases artwork and graphics of Scarry’s characters (like Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm!) from publisher Penguin Random House alongside Jerni Collection toys. Children and adults can also experience dynamic displays exploring the workings of the railroad, the services it provides, and the jobs required to keep people and goods moving.
