Hi everyone! I can not believe February is almost over.  The NYC public schools are open again tomorrow but there are still some fun events this week!

Monday February 24th

Spanish for Babies & Toddlers with Toc Toc at The Great Room (Cobble Hill)
Mondays 1045a until April 6th. $25/drop in. ¡Hola! Would you like your children to speak Spanish as a second language? The best age to kick start it is from 6-36 months old, when they’re just learning how to talk! Join us at Toc Toc: our Spanish classes for babies and toddlers are a fun mix of sing-alongs, dancing, games, story time, and a puppet show. Non-Spanish speakers welcome! Worm Composting at Seward Park NY Public Library (Lower East Side)
Monday February 24th 330p. Free. Participants will be introduced to vermicomposting – indoor composting with red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida). Lesson will cover how to make and maintain a worm bin, with a discussion on what worms need to survive and create nutrient-rich vermicompost from food scraps. All materials are provided. This program is in partnership with the Lower East Side Ecology Center.

Mixed Up Mondays at Ulmer Park Brooklyn Public Library
Mondays 4-5p until June 29th (none 5/25 ). Free. Every Monday a different Activity – you never know what is going to happen….til you come into the branch.

Tuesday February 25th

National Pancake Day at IHOP (Citywide)
Tuesday February 25th starting at 7a. Come in for one free short stack of buttermilk pancakes per guest! Dine-in only. At participating locations. Hours may vary. And a chance to win pancakes for life and other fabulous prizes! Find a location here.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Shine and the Moonbeams at Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday February 25th 11a-12n. Free. Location: Dweck Center. Shine and the Moonbeams take the best rhythmic elements of popular music to give family audiences a soulfully satisfying experience. Come jump, grove, shakes, and sings along.

Black History Month – Movies Under the Stars: Harriet in Red Hook Recreation Center
Tuesday February 25th 11a-115p. Free. Celebrate Black History Month with NYC Parks and New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment at this free family film! Harriet: This powerful biopic centers on Harriet Tubman as she conquers epilepsy, slavery, misogyny, and racism to liberate hundreds of enslaved people, serve in the Union Army and become an icon for freedom everywhere. Directed by Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me), this award-winning film features Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures); Broadway stars Clark Peters, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Cynthia Erivo in the title role. Know Before You Go: This movie will take place indoors. Seating is limited. Please arrive before 11:00 am to get your spot for the movie.

Wednesday February 26th

Kids & Family: Sing! at the 92Y
Wednesdays 915a until May 20th (none 4/8 & 4/15). $20/child, $10 each additional child. Join Jody Doomchin and the Parenting Center staff for a fun and interactive sing-a-long of old time favorites, folk songs and childhood classics. Please note: This is a drop-in class, no registration required, payable at door. Credit cards and Sing cards accepted. We cannot accept cash payment at the door. Black History Month – Movies Under the Stars: Black Panther at St. John’s Recreation Center (Crown Heights)
Wednesday February 26th 330p-545p. Free. Join NYC Parks and New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for this free family film! Black Panther: Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, this mega-blockbuster follows T’Challa as he returns home as king of Wakanda but finds his sovereignty challenged by a new adversary, in a conflict with global consequences. Directed by award-winning Ryan Coogler, this cultural phenomenon stars Chadwick Boseman in the title role; Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira; Oscar nominees Daniel Kaluuya and Angela Bassett; Oscar winners, Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whittaker. Know Before You Go: This movie will take place indoors. Seating is limited. Urban Stages: African Dancing and Folktales Workshop at Jamaica Bay Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday February 26th 4-5p. Free. African folktales are woven through an interactive African Dance class.

Thursday February 27th

Kitty in the City: A Sound Along at Williamsburg Brooklyn Public Library
Thursday February 27th 10-11a. Free. In this interactive puppet show, audiences will meet Missy, a New York City kitty who loves to explore and play, but while exploring her neighborhood one day, she loses her way! With the help of her fellow city-dwellers, and using the sounds and rhythms of the city, Missy finally finds her way home. Full of original music and interactive fun! The play will take place with all audience members sitting in a circle together. For ages 3-7y. Presented by Urban Stages

Sparkly Winter Painting at Central Queens Public Library (Jamaica)
Thursday February 27th 1030a. Free. For ages 3-5y. Location: CLDC (Multipurpose Room). Children will celebrate winter by creating their own sparkly hat, bubble wrap snowy tree, and cotton ball house.

Singalong with Hannah at Lark Cafe (Flatbush/Prospect Park South)
Thursdays 11a. $10/family. Come to Sing-along and dance with Hannah from The Buttons band!

Ongoing Events

Ed Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park
Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5p and also Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5p. Location: Pier 1. Free. The Ed Center is open for free, drop-in hours three afternoons a week! Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!

Free Admission Winter Weekdays at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Tuesdays-Fridays 10a-430p until February 28th. Free admission winter weekday! Last admission into the Garden is 30 minutes before closing time. Closed Mondays. Note: The Garden’s Eastern Parkway entrance is closed. Please enter at 455 Flatbush Avenue or 990 Washington Avenue.

The Industry City Ice Rink (Sunset Park)
Wednesdays-Thursdays 4-8p, Fridays 11a-8p, Saturdays 10a-8p and Sundays 10a-5p. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under, with skate rentals costing $9. Tickets can be purchased on site at IC Ice Rink in courtyard 5/6. The Industry City Ice Rink opens November 30 and welcomes guests to join for an iconic winter experience every Wednesday to Sunday with ice skating theme parties on Fridays + Saturdays. The rink is outside and uncovered, so dress appropriately for an enjoyable and comfortable skate. If you come at a popular time and there’s a line, there are plenty of other activities to fill your time while you wait. Pop into our game room, browse + shop The Makers Guild, hang by the fire pit or grab a drink inside any of our brewers and distillers. See website for all the details.

Playdate & Mingle Time at Edamama Cute Cuts & More (Williamsburg)
Daily 130-3p. Cash only: $15 per munchkin. Sibling is $25 (two children). Adults are free! Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Invite your friends. While munchkins are rolling around and socializing you can take a breather with your friends! Our space is the most children and family friendly hang out space in the hood. Play dates are an informal and unstructured social events for munchkins 0 to 3 yrs old and their tribe.

Drop-in Storytimes at Stories Bookshop + Storytelling Lab (Park Slope)
Mondays 1130a, 1230p & 3p, Tuesdays 1030a, Wednesdays 1130a & 1230p, Thursdays 1030a & 1130a & Fridays 1130a & 1230p. No sign-up or registration is needed for Storytimes. Weekday Storytimes with our staff are $10 per family, with further discounted Read-y passes available for sale in our bookshop. See website for information.

Survival: The Exhibition at NY Hall of Science
Daily until September 13th. Hours: Monday – Friday, 930a-5p, Saturday & Sunday, 10a-6p. $7 per person, plus NYSCI admission. Free for Members. Become the ultimate survival expert. Test your survival skills. Learn how to build shelter in the forest, find water in the desert, stay warm in the extreme cold. Plus, learn water safety and emergency preparations. Survival culminates in the Adventure Zone Ropes Course and Zip Line, where visitors’ confidence and problem-solving skills are put to the test. Course obstacles and activities teach balance, focus, coordination and concentration while building resilience and determination in the face of adversity. See the website for all the details. T. rex: The Ultimate Predator at American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Daily 10a-545p until August 9th 2020. Timed entry only. Gallery 3, third floor. General Admission + One tickets: Adult $28 / Child (2-12) $16.50 / Senior & Student $22.50. Free for members. How did T. rex evolve to become the most fearsome carnivore of the Mesozoic?
