Are Fancy Pregnancy Leggings Worth It? We review Glowe.

Should you or should you not get fancy maternity leggings? I had this question when looking from the options, but thankfully I was saved from making the choice when I was offered a pair of speciality, high quality leggings for review. I also received some cheaper, regular leggings as hand-me-downs to have something to compare.  I wore through the cheap ones in a couple of weeks before I had the courage to unwrap the smooth, heavy package of Glowe leggings. They take a bit of an effort to put on the first time as they need to stretch a bit and they are designed to fit snuggly without too much give no matter your pregnancy stage.

Glowe stands for: “Giving LOve to Women Everywhere” through the power of good clothing it seems. Glowe was founded by Lucy Ovington, a former fashion design executive for several big brands including, most recently, Under Armour. These leggings are the centerpiece of her new independent, creative career, and she has clearly poured herself into their expert design.

As other reviewers have said, the material is amazing. It is strong, silky, and completely opaque no matter how big your bump and backside. The stretch is good because it does stretch but still allows for firm support. The back, hip, and leg support is great. My only compliant is the the belly support seems to be even all over or more on top, and I really needed it to be around the bottom of my belly like a sling to hold it up. You can fold it down to provide even more under bump support (they show it in a little video at the bottom of this page), but I need to fold it so low that it is on my pelvic bone (not really publicly presentable and a bit hard to sit) in an effort to keep my third trimester monster belly from pressing too hard on the muscles right on top of that bone. It’s a hard place to apply support. I think this is a unique, ‘ridin low’ issue and probably not that common.

The maternity leggings will definitely hold up all the way through pregnancy, and I bet will be pretty nice for postpartum too. I’m keeping them for walks in the fall in the park. If you are brave, you don’t even need to wear a dress over them.

The price is probably worth it for most people as it can replace a belly band (at least for most people) and multiple other cheap leggings that just get worn out. I can wear these every day and they don’t get too stretched out and stay nice looking.
