Mind Body Music-Outdoor Music Class in Central Park
Fridays 10-1040a until October 2nd. $20/class. For Ages 6 mo – 4 yrs (adult participation required). Location: Central Park – Tarr Family Playground (near W 100th). Register here. Mind Body Music’s hugely fun group classes combine play, music education and mindfulness! You can expect to sing engaging new and old songs, dance to popular music, enjoy story time and much more! Notes: Specific location details will be sent in your order confirmation email! To keep you and your little ones as safe and healthy as possible, we are taking strict COVID safety precautions: thoroughly disinfecting all instruments/props before and after each class, holding classes in outdoor spaces, providing hand sanitizers, and capping our classes at 10 students.
Calming Rocks! with the Children’s Museum of Manhattan

The New York Bike Jumble at Old Stone House (Park Slope)
Saturday September 12th 10a-4p. Free admission. Join us again at the Old Stone House at Fifth Avenue and 4th Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn for socially distanced back-to-hybrid or remote school bargains, replacement parts, and new and used bicycles for avoiding the virus on public transport. Gear up for commuting season, test out a new ride, and buy your children early holiday gifts. Park Slope will be buzzing with the sound of happy cyclists! Wear a mask and please wash or sanitize your hands often for your safety and ours!
Cumbe Center for African and Diaspora Dance: Drumstruck Ubuntu Workshop Series
Saturdays September 12th & 19th 1030a (pre-recorded release for 24 hours) and Saturday 26th: Live Class 1030a. Donation based. Sign up here. Special Class Series: Drumstruck Ubuntu Workshops Celebrate South African Dances — Direct from Johannesburg to you! Join Tumelo Seleke, master of South African dances past and present and Drumstruck’s inexhaustibly energetic dance captain, in an exploration of South African dance. Tumelo teaches the traditional dances from the Tswana tribe that borrows inspiration from animals and is a showy, exuberant dance. The tribal movements were modernized when men from rural villages went to work in the mines around Johannesburg and created the Gumboots dance, a unique dance that is the precursor to step dance where wellington boots, known as gumboots in South Africa, are incorporated into the dance. Be sure to wear your rain boots or work boots! For 24-hours, students will have the opportunity to purchase a pre-recorded session of Traditional Tribal dance Tswana and Gumboots. Participants can test their new skills in the recorded class on Saturday, Sept. 26 as Tumelo will be streaming a live instruction of this amazing experience. Each course features contextual explanations of the dance origins, purpose and how each has evolved. All ages and skill levels welcome.

Outdoor Reopening Celebration at Brooklyn Museum (Crown Heights)
Saturday September 12th 2-5p. Free. Location: Plaza on Eastern Parkway. Celebrate Brooklyn culture with our community as the Museum reopens to the public! Enjoy a socially distant steel pan performance by Pan in Motion, an organization that promotes steel pan education around the world, led by composer and educator Kendall K. Williams. Plus, catch DJ sets by Sabine Blaizin, use chalk to draw on the plaza, and support local vendors with bites from Greedi Vegan, Island Pops, and Wadadli Jerk. This event will take place outdoors. We’re following procedures and guidelines laid out by the CDC and local health officials, including practicing social distancing for all activities, and masks are required for all adults and children over the age of 2. This program is free, but please reserve tickets in advance to visit the galleries.

Wildman” Steve Brill’s Forage in Prospect Park
Sunday September 13th 1145a to 345p. Suggested donation: $20 ($10 for children under 12), sliding scale. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds. Please bring exact change. Location: Grand Army Plaza entrance. Bring: plastic bags for vegetables and herbs, paper bags for mushrooms, plastic containers for berries, drinking water, and a pen (to sign in). The purpose of this hands-on program is to learn about the environment and get back in touch with nature. By studying foraging and nature, we enjoy our renewable resources and reaffirm our commitment to preserving and rebuilding our ecological riches. Biking, Boating + Splash Pad in Prospect Park
Open daily. Hours: Boating + Biking: daily, 10a- 8p & Splash Pad (water play): daily, 10a-dusk. Splash pad is free see website for biking & boating rates. COVID-19 Update: Please note that starting Saturday, August 1, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside will be open daily for biking, boating and water play, with food and drink available for takeaway from the Bluestone Cafe. Please note that our water play feature, Splash Pad, is not regularly sanitized, and patrons are requested to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines posted on site, including adhering to mask wearing and social distancing protocols.
Rollerskating at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Daily 12n-6p until mid October. Pricing: $6 admission & $7 skate rentals on weekdays and $10 admission, $7 skate rentals on weekends (weekend pricing begins 4p Fridays). Roller Skating is BACK! COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed, including mask-wearing and social distancing protocols. Skating will operate at reduced capacity. Come get moving with us at Lakeside! Lakeside’s outdoor roller skating rink provides fun for kids, tweens, and adults alike. Skate to a mix of pop hits while taking in views of Prospect Park Lake. Spineless Exhibit at The New York Aquarium (Coney Island)
Daily 10a-5p (park closes at 6p) until September 20th and then 10a-4p (park closes 5p) until October 31st. Admission included with ticket. All visitors must reserve a date-specific ticket in advance. Please check Know Before You Go for details. We have great news: The New York Aquarium is reopening on August 27! Buy tickets to see all of your favorite marine animals today and enjoy summer on Coney Island! Explore Spineless, our latest exhibit, and marvel and the jellies, octopus, and more. Come wave hello to Erie the sea lion and Murphy the Harbor Seal. Relax in Ocean Wonders: Sharks! and watch the rays, sharks, and turtles.
The Nature of Color Exhibit at American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum is open Wednesdays-Sundays with timed entry tickets are available 10a-4p (museum closes 530p). Exhibit is open until March 8, 2021. Select a General Admission + One or General Admission + All ticket, choose date and time of entry to the Museum, then select The Nature of Color. Reserve tickets here. Our world is awash in color.
