Hi everyone!  The weather is cooling down finally and there is lots going on in NYC this week.


This week check out a Virtual Estuary Storytime, Child’s Play NY Free Musical Theater Lab Virtual Class, Zoom Toddler Time with Miss Cindy, Lavender Blues Virtual Class, Ezra Jack Keats Story and CraftLittle Red Riding Hood at Puppetworks, Natural Dyeing with the Wyckoff House Museum, Urban Park Ranger Nature and Wildlife Activities in Maria Hernandez Park, Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden Virtual Storytime: Let’s Take a Trip, Living History @ Home: Black Women and the Suffragist Movement and Hudson RiverKids: Story Hour.

Monday September 14th

Lavender Blues Virtual Class
Mondays 1030-1115a until November 16th. $15/class. Ages 0 mo – 4 yrs (adult participation required). Register here. A virtual music and movement class for babies and toddlers. Join us as we sing and play for 40 minutes through music and movement with traditional nursery rhymes as well as our own. Grab your instrument, a stuffy and a blanket to use as a parachute! With games, dancing & bubbles of course, we bring Lady B & Lavender Blues into your home! Note: You will receive an email 30 minutes before class with the Zoom class invitation. There are also classes Wednesday 1230p (babies only), Thursdays at 1030a & 4p & Saturdays at 930a.

Child’s Play NY Free Musical Theater Lab Virtual Class
Monday September 14th 4-5p. September 14th is pay as you can. Students in grades 4-6 learn how to be a triple threat in this dynamic class for budding performers with Child’s Play NY. Students focus on songs, dances and characters from Broadway’s most celebrated and kid-friendly shows. They work alongside professional performers with years of experience bringing their passion to children.

Tuesday September 15th

Zoom Toddler Time with Miss Cindy
Tuesdays 1030-1115a until October 20th. Free. Join Windsor Terrace’s own Miss Cindy for songs, rhymes, and stories. Bring your shakers, rattles, instruments, or just some pots and pans to make music. Please register here to receive the Zoom link. We will email the link approximately one hour before the program begins.

Urban Park Ranger Nature and Wildlife Activities in Maria Hernandez Park
Tuesday September 15th 11a-12n. Free. Location: Starr Street and Irving Avenue. Look out for our Urban Park Rangers who will be in the park providing nature and wildlife-related activities and engagement. Activities may include nature art, scavenger hunts, physical challenges, and more. Note: Maintain six feet of physical distance between households, wear a face covering and additionally, we encourage participants to bring their own hand sanitizer to our programs. Wednesday September 16th

Virtual Estuary Storytime
Wednesday September 16th 11-1145a. Free. Join Brooklyn Public Library for Virtual Storytime co-presented with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy! Babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers and their caregivers are invited to develop early literacy skills and learn about a monthly theme through play, songs, rhymes, and stories. Living History @ Home: Black Women and the Suffragist Movement
Wednesday September 16th 1-2p. Free; all ages. In the early 20th century, women around the world were fighting for the right to vote. But Black women in the United States also had to battle systematic racism and white supremacist violence. Join us online and learn about individuals like Ida B. Wells and organizations like the National Association of Colored Women, which organized and protested for the rights and freedom of Black women in America. Thursday September 17th

Ezra Jack Keats Story and Craft
Thursday September 17th 330-4p. Free. Through the Ezra Jack Keats Story and Craft program, librarians read aloud to children and lead a craft activity related to the themes and images of the book.
This will be broadcasted live at 330p from Brooklyn Public Library Facebook Page.

Hudson RiverKids: Story Hour
Thursdays 4p until October 28th. Free. Join us each week for story hour – a new surprise each week in September! Tune in to hear these family favorites; there will even be an arts & crafts lesson to go with the books. Hudson RiverKids is available for all to watch here. September 17, I Am Perfectly Designed by Karamo Brown and Jason “Rachel” Brown, illustrated by Anoosha Syed (ages 4-8) – craft of the week: Nature Self-Portrait. Friday September 18th

Natural Dyeing with the Wyckoff House Museum
Friday September 18th 10-1030a. Free. Join the Wyckoff Museum staff as they explore the art and science of natural dyes using materials from the garden or grocery store. We’ll touch on textile history, the pH scale, and color theory as we guide you through the steps to dye clothes at home! See the website for the list of materials needed and to RSVP.

Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden Virtual Storytime: Let’s Take a Trip
Friday September 18th 1130a-12n. Free. Join us for a virtual museum storytime. We will read picture books about weekend trips like camping and going to the beach, and then we will play a game together. Everyone welcome, but designed especially for children 6 and under. Little Red Riding Hood at Puppetworks
Wednesdays-Sundays at 1230p until September 20th. Tickets: Children $10 each, Adults $11 each (suggested for ages 3 and up). Charles Perrault’s Folk Tale adapted for Hand Puppets by Michael Thomas. Brooklyn Public Library Vitural Storytimes
Daily usually at 11a & 2p. Free. Sometimes the storytimes are on the Brooklyn Public Library Family facebook page and other times they are on a specific branch facebook page. See the website for all the details.

Biking, Boating + Splash Pad in Prospect Park
Open daily. Hours: Boating + Biking: daily, 10a- 8p & Splash Pad (water play): daily, 10a-dusk. Splash pad is free see website for biking & boating rates. COVID-19 Update: Please note that starting Saturday, August 1, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside will be open daily for biking, boating and water play, with food and drink available for takeaway from the Bluestone Cafe. Please note that our water play feature, Splash Pad, is not regularly sanitized, and patrons are requested to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines posted on site, including adhering to mask wearing and social distancing protocols.

Rollerskating at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Daily 12n-6p until mid October. Pricing: $6 admission & $7 skate rentals on weekdays and $10 admission, $7 skate rentals on weekends (weekend pricing begins 4p Fridays). Roller Skating is BACK! COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed, including mask-wearing and social distancing protocols. Skating will operate at reduced capacity. Come get moving with us at Lakeside! Lakeside’s outdoor roller skating rink provides fun for kids, tweens, and adults alike. Skate to a mix of pop hits while taking in views of Prospect Park Lake. Spineless Exhibit at The New York Aquarium
Daily 10a-5p until September 7th. See the website for fall hours. Admission included with ticket. All visitors must reserve a date-specific ticket in advance. Please check Know Before You Go for details. We have great news: The New York Aquarium is reopening on August 27! Buy tickets to see all of your favorite marine animals today and enjoy summer on Coney Island! Explore Spineless, our latest exhibit, and marvel and the jellies, octopus, and more. Come wave hello to Erie the sea lion and Murphy the Harbor Seal. Relax in Ocean Wonders: Sharks! and watch the rays, sharks, and turtles.

Free Bike Mornings on Governors Island
Mondays-Fridays 10a-12n. Free. Blazing Saddles offers bikes, surreys, pedal cars, scooters and more for rental. Free Bike Mornings allow visitors to borrow a bike from Blazing Saddles for free for up to one hour every weekday between 10 AM and noon. Come visit Blazing Saddles at the north end of Colonels Row and bike the Island! This year you need a reservation for the ferry. See the website for all the details.

PJ Library Digital Resources
Monday-Friday storytimes & craft-alongs at 11a, 1p & 4p (eastern) and virtual field trips 12n eastern everyday. See website for details.

Tuesdays 5p (Spanish), Wednesdays 11a (Mandarin), Thursdays 11a (Spanish), Fridays 11a (French). Pricing: Weekly: $20 per week of unlimited access to classes, Monthly: $60 per month of unlimited access to classes, Semester: $120 for an entire four months of unlimited access to classes. The Nature of Color Exhibit at American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum is open Wednesdays-Sundays with timed entry tickets are available 10a-4p (museum closes 530p). Exhibit is open until March 8, 2021. Select a General Admission + One or General Admission + All ticket, choose date and time of entry to the Museum, then select The Nature of Color. Reserve tickets here. Our world is awash in color. Color makes the world feel vibrant and alive. But that’s not all. Color helps us make sense of the world. It contains vast amounts of information—about the natural world, and the human world. Come and explore the world of color in this immersive exhibition.

Children’s Museum of Manhattan at Home
Activities in a daily email newsletter. Free. While the Museum is closed, our CMOM educators are still working to fill your child’s day with engaging interactive activity. CMOM can still be a part of your day through videos, sing-a-longs, games and so much more for you to do together with your family at home! Sign up for emails here (go all the way down the page on the right hand side for email sign up). From slime-making, dance parties and being transported to Japan with a recipe for sushi, to making animal puppets from recycled materials around the house, creating a bedtime routine and storytimes, “CMOM at Home” is sure to delight. Each day of the week will feature a different theme: Magical Monday, Move & Grove Tuesday, Our World Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, Feel Good Friday, Storytime Saturday and Surprise Sunday.
