Little Red’s Hood in St. Vartans Park (Murray Hill)
Friday October 29th 11-1145a & 1-145p. Free. #LittleRed’sHood is a fresh retelling of the classic ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ tale updated with a modern sensibility that appeals to kids. In this story, Little Red is a smart, young city dweller who is obsessed with her smartphone. Wulfric, a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth, crosses paths with Little Red on her travels to deliver her Grandma cupcakes and the trouble begins. This story offers a comical lesson on the importance to disconnect from our digital lives and enjoy real life moment with friends and family.
Grand Opening of the Winter Village in Bryant Park
Opening Friday October 29th at 12n and open daily until March 6th. Hours: Monday-Thursday 8a-10p, Friday-Sunday and holidays 8a-1130p. Winter Village at Bryant Park is Manhattan’s winter wonderland. Screening & Live Event: A Happy Henson Halloween at the Museum of the Moving Image (Astoria)

Join us for a selection of classic monsters, music, and Muppets, including episodes of The Muppet Show featuring Vincent Price and Alice Cooper and other haunting classic clips from Jim Henson’s work. Creative Break: Halloween & Day of the Dead at Little Island (West Village)
Friday October 29th 3p. No RSVP required, just show up! Location: Pier 55 in Hudson River Park. Celebrate Halloween and Day of the Dead in this festive paper collage workshop led by teaching artist Georgie Flores. Join us in the Glade to take pictures in the pumpkin patch, decorate a sugar skull, and mark the change of seasons. All artmaking materials provided. Halloween Tinker Festival: Shadow Puppet Workshop at Lewis Latimer House Museum (Flushing)
Saturday October 30th 630-730p. Free. Register here. Visitors will come by in the evening to make shadow puppets on the wall of the Lewis Latimer House. Using brads, paper, and wire, we will learn how to create an articulated, or jointed puppet with a distinctive silhouette. Our puppets will need a body, a head, arms, and maybe even legs! We will also need to add some wire to the end to allow us to control the body parts of our puppet. Once our puppet is complete, we will cast a shadow and tell a story. Using the way shadows work, we can use a few techniques, like hiding things, making things get bigger or smaller, or even create interesting patterns of light. We can use these in combination with storytelling techniques that we can learn to use all of our puppets to tell a scary Halloween story, or a sweet Halloween story!

Halloween at the Queens Botanical Garden

Little ones can show off their Halloween costumes, walk our Trick-or-Treat Trail, and enjoy performances, including a magic show! Village Halloween Costume Ball 2021 at Theater for the New City (East Village)
Sunday October 31st 2-10p. Free. Admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted. No reservations are necessary. The entire public is invited. Theater for the New City (TNC) has presented its Village Halloween Costume Ball annually since 1976. With safety paramount this year, the fete will take place October 31 as an open-air celebration outside the theater, on East Tenth Street between First and Second Avenues. A large tent will provide rain protection. Performances, a costume competition and dancing to the music of swing and Latin bands are planned.

Join us outside of our building for a spine-chilling performance from a BKCM faculty string quartet, a haunted musical garden and, of course, candy! Halloween Events at the Seaport Museum
Saturday-Sunday October 30th-31st 12n-4p. Free. Location: Pier 16. Save the date for the Seaport Museum’s Halloween activity line-up! Bring kids of all ages to Pier 16 to paint and decorate pumpkins that have been delivered from upstate farms by sail freight—just like in the old days!—by Schooner Apollonia. Guests can also participate in our Black Cat Scavenger Hunt on Wavertree and Ambrose as well as other Halloween fun throughout Open Days on both Saturday, October 30 and Sunday, October 31. Pumpkin Point 2021 on Governors Island
Saturdays-Sundays 10a-6p until October 31st. Announcing the return of Pumpkin Point, Governors Island’s annual family friendly pumpkin patch! During the last two weekends of October, Pumpkin Point will bring thousands of pumpkins to Governors Island, transforming historic Nolan Park into a fall wonderland. Visitors are invited to stroll through the expansive pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to take home in exchange for a small suggested donation. Programming will include free, Halloween and autumn-inspired arts and crafts activities, story-telling, live music and more. Pumpkin Farm at Queens County Farm Museum

From authentic colonial ghost stories to creepy modern-day encounters, Village Ghost Tours explore historic houses by candlelight and delve into folklore and mysteries from the past. This ghost tour is led by costumed storytellers who share their own unexplained and unnerving tales. Family Discovery Days at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Use your senses to explore plants, create nature art, and pot up a plant to take home! Visit the Hamm Children’s Learning Courtyard inside the Discovery Garden for hands-on activities alongside BBG staff. On Saturdays, learn about birds with teens from the Garden Apprentice Program. Putting Green Mini Golf (Williamsburg)

All profits will be donated to local nonprofit organizations addressing climate change in NYC. PUTTING GREEN is an 18-hole mini golf course open to the public on the waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Tall Ship Wavertree at South Street Seaport
Open Friday-Sundays 11a-5p through October 2021. The permanently-moored 1885 tall ship Wavertree will be open to the public for FREE with timed entry, from at Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Visits will be self-guided along a set route and will include access to the main deck and quarter deck. Learn how people worked and lived aboard a 19th century cargo sailing vessel, from the captain to the ship’s officers, cooks, and crew. Then visit the cargo hold and stand atop the viewing platform where you can take in the massive main cargo area.The Museum will allow no more than 150 guests on board the ship at any time to encourage social distancing from different households. All guests above the age of 2 will be required to wear a face covering at all times aboard Wavertree and at the Museum’s pop-up gift shop. Reserve tickets here.
The Yard – Adventure Playground on Governors Island
Saturdays-Sundays 12n-4p until November 21st. Free. Welcome back to The Yard, New York City’s only adventure playground! The Yard offers free weekend play with Covid safety protocols in place. The Yard is a kids-only space recommended for young people ages 6 to 18, stewarded by trained playworkers. The Yard supplies young people with loose parts materials for building, exploring, imagining and destroying. Rules and more information: No more than 35 children at a time will be allowed in The Yard. Children must be over 5 years old. Masks are required. The Nature of Color Exhibit at American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum is open Wednesdays-Sundays with timed entry tickets are available 10a-4p (museum closes 530p). Exhibit is open until December 5, 2021.
