Finding the Smallest Helmet is a Challenge

We could not believe that we got the smallest helmet there was and it was so big on our daughter, but we knew we had shopped around for a helmet forever.  We both did, or so we thought. Looking back, maybe we just looked on Amazon and a couple of other places online. Maybe it was a Google shopping search.

I am not one of those people who buys everything on Amazon. Have you heard of “show rooming”? That is when someone finds something they like in a store, takes a picture, and then buys it online. I often make the effort to do the opposite. I find something online and then see if I can find it in person. I don’t think we did this with the helmet because we assumed that to find a helmet so small we would have to go to a million stores. We were so wrong.

This is the helmet that we first bought (shown here) was the smallest available. The helmet was way too big, and therefore not safe, but we figured that getting into the habit of wearing a helmet was also important. She also wasn’t really going fast on anything yet, but we knew it was coming soon. The old helmet was barely adjustable at all.

We Finally Find the Smallest Helment

A couple of months ago we rented bikes, including a bike trailer to pull the little one. We all rented helmets–including a tiny little bike helmet that fit our daughter perfectly. It was called a “Small Fry” by Specialized. The newer version of this is a “Mio” and we bought it down the street at Bike Habitat. It is super adjustable and cute. It has a magnetic strap that is easy to get on and off (no more pinches!).

Now I can’t believe how stupid we were. Get your kids a good helmet that fits! Here is an article I found helpful for reviewing helmets. We also found this one on Amazon (affiliate link warning) that can get pretty small.
