KoKoNYC offers building camps. The Soap Box Workshops and Mini Destroy & Construct encourage kids to use imagination and tools to transform trash into functional machines.
SOAPBOX Summer workshops (ages 7-14):
1-week camp: $650
When: 9a-2p with option for extended day
The Soap Box Workshop encourages children to think outside the box. Children plan their inventions using sketches and calculations, bringing them to life with found and recycled objects as well as building materials. Over the course of the workshop, participants turn piles of seemingly useless trash into functional machines while learning about construction and design and, more importantly, having fun. Leading up to the race, kids test drive their gravity racers, ensuring the safety and functionality of each invention. At the South Slope Derby, participants get to race their cars for real as friends, families, and neighbors cheer them on as they race down the street.
MINI DESTROY & CONSTRUCT (5-7 years)
1-week camp: $650
When: 9a-2p with option for extended day
In this week-long camp specifically designed for ages 5-7 kids will have fun deconstructing and constructing. KoKo NYC teaching artists bring years of experience in self-directed, play-based learning to encourage kids to take healthy, managed risks and try new experiences while avoiding hazards. Using screwdrivers, pliers and other tools, kids will be encouraged to imagine and invent. Allowing young children the opportunity to take controlled risks in a safe, encouraging environment with experienced educators has been shown to increase a child’s confidence, leadership and innovation skills and give them a great sense of pride in their accomplishments.
The workshop is held outside only – rain or shine.

Please note that A Child Grows does not certify or inspect these camps (we don’t have the ability or resources to do that) so parents must use their own best judgement. NYC licenses some camps but it doesn’t apply to all camps and we can’t check that or know all the details. Here is a good article that may help:
